Michael H. Gurau, President: email
Michael's background includes twelve years of venture capital and four years of startup operations experience. Most of Michael's venture capital career was spent with Advent International, in its London and Boston offices. His start-up experience included work in product management, marketing and strategy with Silknet Software (now Kana Communications), a software development company in Manchester, NH. Prior to Silknet, Michael was General Manager of Living Balance, a direct mail and eCommerce start-up that was part of Oxford Health Plans' Alternative Medicine Division.

Michael earned his BS Finance from Babson College and his MBA from the University of Virginia's Darden School. Michael spends free time with his family in Freeport, Maine. 

Current Board roles include Director of NanoComp Technologies Inc., Juno Rising (dba Isis for Women) and Be. Products Company, and Chairman of The Rustic Crust, and The Natural Pasta Company. Michael is also on the Board of Directors of the Merriconeag Waldorf School in Freeport, Maine. 

Michael C. Burgmaier, Principal email

Michael joined CEI Community Ventures from Bain & Company, Inc. While at Bain, Michael worked with clients across several industries, including consumer products, biotechnology, durable goods and health care. With these clients, Michael gained functional expertise in marketing effectiveness, growth strategy, supply chain, lean manufacturing, organizational strategy and cost reduction, among others. Prior to joining Bain, Michael also led projects to improve the quality of health care for adolescents and young children at Children Now, an independent nonprofit organization in California. He also served as a fiscal policy analyst for former Massachusetts governor William Weld and worked at a start-up bond fund in California.

Michael holds a MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, an MPP from Duke University and a BA in Economics from Boston College. He is a member of the Social Venture Network and lives in Yarmouth, Maine with his wife and three young children. In his free time, Michael enjoys playing with his children and spending time outdoors.

Current Board roles include Director of Be. Products Company, Look's Gourmet Food Company, and The Natural Pasta Company. Board observer seats include Rustic Crust Inc., NanoComp Technologies Inc., Foneshow, Speranza Systems and Juno Rising (dba Isis for Women). Michael is also on the Board of Directors of GrowSmart Maine in Yarmouth, Maine.

Jennifer K. Walker, Fund Administrator: email
Jen administers the day-to-day operations of the Fund. Most recently, Jen worked with Wintergreen Financial Group, a local financial services/broker dealer firm. Prior to joining Wintergreen, she managed the operational affairs at Masthead Venture Partners, a Portland/Boston-based early-stage venture capital firm focusing on information technology and biotechnology investments.

Jen holds a BA in English from the University of Maine. She has been involved in the National Youth Sports Program, a comprehensive educational and sports program which teaches vital life skills to economically disadvantaged children; is the President of The Greenwood Club, an educational and sports alumni and fundraising organization; and is on the Board of the University of Maine Swimming & Diving Endowment Fund. Additionally, she is a volunteer for the Maine Mentor Program, and is the coordinator of a local natural food cooperative.
